MMC BlogMMC Honda takes to the track in hope!
Another fantastic weekend of racing last week, but maybe not if you’re in motorsport insurance was the statement from MMC headquarters.
BTCC and TOCA support races rolled in to Thruxton for an action packed weekend, and the Hampshire circuit certainly delivered thrilling racing for the on looking spectators. Unfortunately for some of the drivers, the famously quick circuit delivered its fair share of accidents, especially in the Clio cup and Ginetta Supercup.
A slightly different affair was the GT Trophy event at Snetterton on the bank holiday Monday. Only 9 cars started the first part of the race, with only 7 actually finishing. The MMC BMW M3 CSL treated the event as a warm up, mainly for the Silverstone 24hr race in October, with drivers Dave and Michael Cox getting some valuable track time behind the wheel. However, it was another impressive run out for the Ferrari 458! The FF Corse prepared car was dominant throughout the race, and a deserved winner. Let’s hope for some larger grids at the 3 hour GT Trophy event on the famous Brands Hatch GP circuit in August.
This week, attention turns to Brands Hatch, and the 2nd outing for the MMC Honda CRX – well we say 2nd outing, the first outing only lasted the green flag lap. After another engine rebuild, the CRX will test tomorrow, before attempting to race in the CSCC meeting on Sunday. Driver Andy Hancock (who has been in the car every time it has broken) stated “it’s not me, honestly, we just like to be considered the HRT or Virgin Racing of the Saloon world”. Follow regular updates on the MMC twitter feed, @MMCMotorsport.
Finally, a special mention for our old friends PB and Marshy. PB has been in training for the shooting events at London 2012, but took time out on Sunday for a spot of fishing at the Marina – the multi talented sportsman caught Rudd after Rudd – Pure Class with either a gun or a rod! And Marshy, who marshaled his rugby team to a win in the Junior Vase final at Twickenham, despite not being completely accurate in the programme with his vital statistics!!
Good luck to all the MMC clients this weekend in the UK and in Europe, with a special mention for our GP2 & GP3 clients who get their season underway in Turkey. Team MMC Race Car for Sale
In 2011 Team MMC will be running a Honda CRX, and as such, are selling their Renault Clio 1.8 16v. For full details visit Race Car Spares Ltd at http://www.racecarspares.com/Shop.asp?Action=ViewProductDetail&ProductID={A2D9A2A7-C969-42E2-9E4E-47BF95B8E643}
MMC Dean Stoneman
Autosport.com have today reported that racing friend, Dean Stoneman (current F2 Champion), will not be racing in World Series Renault this season due to being diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Dean is a real fighter and competitor - he beat all before him last season, and we're sure he'll beat this also.
MMC add their best wishes to Dean for a swift recovery and return to Motorsport - and our thoughts are with Dean, Colin and the family.

Marque 1
MARQUE 1 - Motorsport Sponsorship Management
Marque 1 is a new company set up by two drivers who have financed their racing through sponsorship from companies of which they are directors and part owners. Being aware of the potential tax liabilities should HMR&C successfully argue that the sponsorship is a benefit in kind, they set up Marque 1 to help drivers in similar positions.
Marque 1 restructures sponsorship arrangements to spread the corporate advertising over a number of race cars, race bikes, and other media, in an attempt to reduce the risk of a successful tax challenge while still enabling a director/driver to race his car with his usual race support team. This service is backed up by specialist tax advice.

Update to follow! HNY !
Happy New Year to everyone from all at MMC Motorsport Insurance!
2011 promises to be a very exciting year for MMC, both in the office, and on the track. Our latest race car, the Honda CRX, is off to Midway Motorsport for painting, and the 2011 race programme is coming together.
Race Car Spares have replaced their ageing Escort Cosworth with a newly acquired BMW E46 and will target Britcar, Belcar and the VLN in 2011.
And finally, and rather randomly - our old friend (and ex-golf pro) PB is selling his 1 yr old Nike Golf Bag as Father C dropped a nice shiny new one off at his house. Anyone interested should contact MMC straightaway! GT Cup & GT Trophy 2011 Season review
With both the GT Cup and GT Trophy series holding their first races next month, news is starting to come through of entries for the season to come.
Several teams, including FF Corse, JMH, In2Racing, GT Marques and Team Parker took the opportunity to head to Jerez last week for two days of official testing; and, in contrast to Imola - where testing activity on the same days was curtailed by several inches of snow - the GT Cup runners enjoyed sunny blue skies.
Not present in Jerez, but due to start their testing programme this week, was Kent based team Race Car Spares/ MMC Motorsport. They have just announced a GT Trophy campaign in a newly acquired BMW M3 E46. Experienced endurance racer Dave Cox will be joined by sons Michael and Jason Cox behind the wheel at selected rounds; "I am excited about the prospect of racing in the GT Trophy with my sons, Michael and Jason," he said. "To have the opportunity of racing on great race tracks like the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, Oulton Park and the new Snetterton 300 circuit is a great attraction for all of us."
Meanwhile, winners of Group 3 of the GT Cup in 2010, Andrew Racing, have traded in their KTM X-Bow for a Morgan Aero 8, as they launch an assault on Group 1. This particular car is the one campaigned in the 2009 GT Cup by Mark Bailey Racing (and which also made a one-off appearance in the British GT Championship at Brands Hatch that year), and returns to the track with Tom Andrew at the controls.
"This is a really exciting season for me," he explained. "The Morgan is a very unique car and is one of only three of this type ever made, so its great to see it racing again. The goal is definitely to go for the overall GT Cup Championship title this year and we plan to do some GT Trophy Endurance series rounds with the Morgan as well."
The Morgan will line up alongside Ferraris, Porsches, Lotuses, BMWs and TVRs, as well as other marques, with GT Cup MD Marc Haynes commenting; "It is great to have such variety on the grid again this year, it's sure to make a great spectacle and offer some fantastic racing."
The season begins on April 2/3, with a two-hour GT Trophy race at Donington Park, while the GT Cup Championship season gets underway at Silverstone on the Arena Circuit on the April 16/17.

Team MMC announce race calendar for 2011
Team MMC have announced their race calendar for 2011, confirming their participation in the Classic Sports Car Club, GT Trophy and Britcar race series. In addition, Team MMC will support selected Alfa Championship rounds in 2011. "This year we have a new car, we are participating in a new series, and we are really looking forward to it" commented Dave Cox, who will campaign the ex Nick Foster BMW with his two sons Michael and Jason.
In the CSCC, Andy and Gavin will also campaign a new vehicle, a 1989 Honda CRX. "We have seen the first photo's of the car since its been painted, and it looks great - this week it is being wrapped, so things are looking good for testing in early March. I have no doubts about the car, I am more worried about my team mate, 'Crasher' Hancock" stated no. 1 driver Gavin Spencer.
Check back soon for more details on the build up to Team MMC's season.
MMC MMC get Jake Hill onto Ginetta grid
17 year-old Goudhurst racing driver Jake Hill is ‘absolutely delighted’ at the last-minute deal offered to him by Championship Winning team Optimum Motorsport for him to compete in the opening round of the Ginetta GT Supercup at Brands Hatch.
Hill briefly drove the Optimum-prepared car on the Ginetta Media Day at Silverstone two weeks ago, although only to give high-speed passenger rides to
“They made me feel so welcome – really friendly but very professional too. The team have Won championships before and I know will give me a really good car. I’m the lap record holder in Ginetta Junior from when I raced there in October, and I won the final race there too, so it would be amazing to move up into a car with 300bhp and try and do the same next weekend!” Hill smiled.
“It’s been a really tough time but I have to say a big thanks firstly to Ron and Shaun at Optimum, and also to everyone at Ginetta for helping get this deal together. We have support from Poor Boys World – a range of car cleaning products – and also from
Jake who Won 10 of 20 races in Ginetta Junior in 2010, and is a BRDC Rising Star, will get a days practice on Tuesday at Brands Hatch, then will take in three races over the weekend of 1st– 3rdApril, this in itself a pretty big challenge.
“Most of the other drivers have driven their cars several times before so will be up to speed already – I only have a little bit of time so I’ll have to make it count! Also I’ve never had three races in a weekend before, and never had race as long as the races will be – 34 laps will be hard work! But I’m confident that I can get a solid result, especially as it’s at my home track, my favourite track, Brands Hatch” Jake added.
Currently the deal is a one-off so Hill Senior is continuing the search for support. Alfa Romeo Annual Awards
I was delighted to be invited to the Alfa Romeo Annual Awards on Saturday - much fun was had by all ! Congratulations to all the class winners, and overall champion, Mel Heeley. Well done also to Paul Plant for winning "Driver of the Year" (and suppyling the cocktails !).
The first race of the 2011 season will take place on the Silverstone Arena GP circuit, on the Britcar support package in March. Can't wait ! Season Starts well for MMC Clients
Congratulations to all the MMC clients who started the season early this weekend, especially those in GP2 Asia Series and Paul Ricard's winter series - Its great to have MMC Clients on the Podium!!

GT Cup - the season starts!
GT Cup Championship Round 1 Preview & Entry List
This weekend the Silverstone Arena GP circuit will play host to the opening round of the 2011 GT Cup Championship season. Since it’s launch in 2007 the GT Cup Championship has become renowned for large grids and close racing and with an array of fabulous GT machinery set to grace the grids again this season, 2011 is set to be every bit as impressive.
Championship organisers Bute Motorsport are delighted with the uptake for the first race of the season; Managing Director Marc Haynes said, "I’m delighted with how things are shaping up. Between 25 and 30 cars is an ideal grid size. We have stunning quality cars and a good balance of numbers between Groups".
This is the second year as a full MSA Championship for the GT Cup, a move that resulted a thrilling battle for the title in 2010. After seeing an incredible eleven different group winners in fourteen races and going into the final round with no less than seven potential winners, the first GT Cup Championship title was decided in a thrilling final round show down.
After finishing the season in such a spectacular fashion expectations are high for another exciting season in 2011. The Silverstone entry list confirms that front running Cheshire based team JMH are returning in 2011 fielding a Ferrari 430 and 360 and a Porsche 997. Driving for the team is Arwyn Williams, Sean Winder and GT Cup race winner Andy Ruhan. Andy took wins at Snetterton and Spa-Francorchamps in 2010 and is sure to be one to watch in 2011.
The iconic Morgan Aero 8 will also make a welcome return to UK racing and The GT Cup Championship this season at the hands of 2010 group 3 winner Tom Andrew.
Ferrari specialists FF Corse will be fielding a flock of Ferrari 430’s for GT Cup front runner Gary Eastwood, Rupert Martin, Toby Tarrant- Willis and 2011 GT Trophy opening round winner Leon Price.
Also expected to be fighting for the title is youngster Danny Winstanley, following a blinding first season in his equally blinding luminous green TVR, he will be out in a stunning new green V6 TVR Segaris for a full on championship attack.
Returning for another bite of the cherry is former Porsche Cup Champion Colin Broster with his Porsche 996. He will join ex British GT competitor Benjamin Harvey in his unique KTM X-BOW under the ABG Motorsport awning this season.
David Tomlin returns after a year away and is making the step up to group one after upgrading from the Ferrari 355 to a Ferrari 430 GTC. Also back after time away is Barclay Dougal, he is launching a joint GT Cup and GT Trophy campaign in his Ocius Motorsport BMW E46 GTR, he will be joined by several BMW’s who are joining the 2011 title hunt this season.
Keeping the racing competitive throughout the field continues to be a top priority for GT Cup Championship organisers Bute Motorsport, newly appointed Technical Coordinator Andy Dawson, said this of the season ahead,
"Marc asked me to get involved this year to tighten up on regulations. We have introduced revised technical regulations which are both more strict in some areas and yet legislate modifications for eligibility compliance which will improve the racing. I really believe that we are leveling the playing field, OK I might be having to use a JCB at the moment, but very quickly I will only need a pitch roller to ensure good racing."
As the GT Cup Championship class of 2011 takes to the iconic Arena GP Circuit for the first time this season, you can look forward to a thrilling weekend of GT racing.

3 The season is here!
It's here - the 2011 UK track season has finally arrived! A big good luck to all our clients racing at Silverstone & Snetterton this coming weekend - as well as our four teams in the Asia GP2 round at Imola.
We look forward to sharing their successes with you next week - when we will also be reviewing the first round of the MSA Endurance Championship, and the debut of the new MMC sponsored Cox family BMW.
Tuesday sees the Carrera Cup Media day at Snetterton, and MMC are delighted to insure a number of cars in this fantastic Championship. We look forward to meeting the teams next week.
Finally not much to report from the first Team MMC test session at Snetterton yesterday. A total of 8 laps and 6 pit stops, saw a number of small faults rectified, and then a Cambelt snap. Not the most productive, or best day in the life of Team MMC!
Have a good weekend all.

News Update
Now the season is fast approaching, normal service will resume with regular blog updates featuring Team MMC’s season, all the news about our clients and friends, and of course any amusing situations we may learn of – Apologies for the slow “blogging” of MMC, work has been getting in the way!
First up.......The UK’s GT Cup competitors travel to Jerez for winter testing this week, of course the rest of us aren’t jealous, we prefer a rainy Silverstone any day!
One of new competitors in the GT Trophy, Race Car Spares / MMC Motorsport, won’t be travelling to Jerez but will be testing next week at both Snetterton and Silverstone. They will unveil their new BMW M3, complete with new livery! One of the drivers, Michael Cox, has recently found himself in the press. On Racing Exposure Online, Michael is interviewed as part of the MSA Endurance season preview – lucky for Michael it wasn’t a 2010 review, and he therefore avoided the rather awkward question of putting the car in the wall at Rockingham!!!
The Team MMC Honda CRX returned from the body shop this week, where it will be looking to be rebuilt in time for a test at Snetterton on the 17thMarch. In its new livery, the car returned with a brand new windscreen that 12 hours later was promptly smashed by the Team MMC mechanic!
Some great news in the Autosport this week, young superstar Dean Stoneman who is fighting testicular cancer, may well feature in a couple of World Series Renault rounds later in the year. The 2010 F2 Champion is now hoping to compete in WSR in 2012 with isport! From everyone at MMC, would be great to see you back on the track Dean.
And finally.....our old friend PB returned to the fishing pond this week for some much needed relaxation. You will recall last year’s updates on PB, and specifically his trophy hunt on the PGA tour and being the only ex butcher to capture the loch ness monster, well rumour has it that PB will be turning his hand to racing in 2011! With an ARDS test planned for April, we can’t wait to see PB on the track – Lewis, Jenson, watch out.........
MMC 2011 quotes Available from 1st December
Contact the MMC Team from the 1st December to get your quotes for 2011!! The Season is in full flow
Another short week in the office, which means it's a long weekend at the races circuits - lets just hope the sun stays out!
MMC visited Oulton Park last weekend, for the opening round of the British GT. A fantastic weekend, which saw race 2 won by Scuderia Vittoria in their new Ferrari 458. An amazing success given they started from the back of the grid, and was in fact the first 458 to win a race this season!!
Also on the package was the Ginetta Challenge, which produced 2 great races – watch the Ginetta Challenge in 2012, there might just be some familiar faces on the grid!!
This weekend the TOCA package takes centre stage in Thruxton, good luck to all the MMC clients, especially those in the Porsche Carrera Cup, Air Asia Clio Cup, Ginetta GT Supercup and Ginetta Juniors.
The MMC Motorsport / Race Car Spares backed BMW E46 M3 makes it’s GT Trophy debut at Snetterton 300 on Monday. The new format for the GT Trophy in 2011 will surely produce some exciting racing, with the strategy key to any team wanting to win! Dave and Mike Cox will drive the BMW in its Trophy debut, and will be hoping that their endurance knowledge gets them on the podium!
Elsewhere in Europe, Team MMC’s clients can be seen in the World Series by Renault at the world famous Spa circuit, and Belcar rolls into Dijon in France.
Good luck to all the MMC clients on track this weekend, let’s hope it’s another weekend of Podiums.
MMC Sunshine, GT's & Radicals
With the sunshine continuing to bless the UK, last weekend saw the 1st round of the MMC sponsored GT Cup at Silverstone - which also hosted the 1st round of the Radical Masters Championship, & nearly 30 MMC clients out on track.
Over at Donington, the TOCA package took centre stage, and BRDC Rising Star, Jake Hill, took 3 podium finishes in this MMC sponsored Ginetta G50 - including his first ever win in the Ginetta Supercup.
GT Cup Report
The 2011 GT Cup Championship began in fine style at a sun-drenched Silverstone this weekend, with a varied and colourful grid delivering up two great races to entertain the crowd. Both of the 25-minute events were characterised by close racing throughout the classes, and by several duels that went down to the flag.
Andy Ruhan ended the day with two Group 1 wins to his name in the #6 Porsche 997 GT3 after overcoming concerted pressure from the Ferrari 430 GTC of Gary Eastwood in both races. Michael Saunders had taken the flag in race one in his bright yellow TVR Cerbera after a flawless run from pole, but a technical issue led to his disqualification after the race. The same fate befell the TVR Sagaris of Danny Winstanley after he had delivered an excellent charge from last on the grid to sixth.
Eastwood closed rapidly on Ruhan in the closing laps of race one, but just ran out of time before being able to challenge for the lead; while a mid-race problem prevented him from doing the same in the second race, leaving Ruhan home and dry.
The Ferraris of Leon Price, David Tomlin and Toby Tarrant-Willis and the BMW of Don Grice provided much entertainment in both races as they fought each other for track position.
Group 2 saw a fine win for Tom Andrew on his debut in the class as he took his newly-acquired Morgan Aero 8 GT from pole to the flag at the head of the field, despite a determined attack from the KTM X-Bow of Benjamin Harvey.
Harveywas again challenging for the lead in race two, but this time was up against the Porsche 996 GT3 of Colin Broster after the Morgan retired. Broster’s first race ended on the opening lap with suspension failure, but the repaired car was up to the job in the second and the GT Cup veteran took the win by just over a second.
It was a good day too for Barclay Dougall in Group 3, the Scot guiding his BMW E46 home to two wins despite a pickup-induced vibration in race one and maximum success ballast in race two.
The highlight of the second race in the group was a three-way fight between the two orange BMWs of Adam Hayes and Mark Radcliffe and the diminutive Chevron GR8 of Andy Yool; the latter managing to eventually overcome his bigger counterparts and get to within striking distance of Dougall at the end.
MMC will be at Outlon Park this Easter break, supporting all their clients in BGT, F3 and the Ginetta Challenge - good luck to all! |
